First MoM AM Applications Granted
Washington - May 11, 2009 - The Federal Communications Commission has granted the first AM moments of method (MoM) AM licenses. WKOX and WRCA are among the first stations to be licensed under the new rules.
The rule change took effect earlier this year, with most of the large group owners with AM stations supporting the rulemaking request, including CBS, Clear Channel, Citadel, Cumulus Media, Entercom and Cox. These groups and several broadcast consulting engineers and equipment manufacturers formed a coalition to support MoM adoption.
It appears that applications granted with the MoM data are being given the prefix BMML in the FCC database.
Ray Benedict, spokesman for the AM Directional Antenna Performance Verification Coalition, notes that stations are encouraged to file form 302 license applications to convert licenses to take advantage of the new rules.
