30 Years of Tascam Portastudios
Montebello, CA - Jan 15, 2009 - It was 30 years ago that Tascam unveiled its first home studio with the 144 Portastudio, a combination cassette recorder and mixer. The Portastudio provided a compact form and for multitrack recording. While designed for musicians, many Tascam Portastudios have seen use at radio stations.
Tascam still sells musician-focused Portastudios, but recording technology has advanced beyond cassette tape. The company's latest model is the DP-004, a battery-powered four-track recorder. The new model records to SD Card media.
