National EAS Test Shortened to 60 Seconds
Washington - Nov 3, 2011 - The Nov. 9, 2011, national EAS test, which was originally planned to include an audio message lasting 2.5 minutes, has been shortened. The audio message will now last about 30 seconds. This is according to the NAB and FEMA. With this change, the entire test should last about 1 minute.
The change was made at the direction of Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano.
All radio and television stations must participate in the EAS Test. The test will start at approximately 2 p.m. ET.
