TFT Model 3320 Obtains IPAWS Approval
San Jose, CA - Jun 7, 2011 - The TFT Model 3320 CAP-to-EAS Converter, manufactured by Alerting Solutions, received official notification of approval by FEMA's Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) Conformity Assessment Program. This certification is evidenced by a Supplier's Declaration of Conformity, which can be found on FEMA's Responder Knowledge Base.
The Model 3320 now officially conforms to OASIS CAP v1.2, USA IPAWS Profile v1.0, and ECIG CAP Implementation Guide 1.0 and receives digital CAP messages via the Internet and other networks and translates them to EAS protocol audio messages. The Model 3320's output normally connects to a TFT EAS911 EAS Encoder/Decoder but can provide CAP compliance for other units as well, such as Burk, HollyAnne and older Sage units.
To enhance integration into existing EAS systems, the Model 3320 has several options available. The text-to-speech option turns text in a field of a received CAP message into natural speech that is not mechanical. Although the 3320 can decode and translate a WAV or MP3 file in a CAP message into the audio portion of an EAS message, sometimes a CAP originator may choose not to send an audio file and substitute the text translation instead.
The relay output option card simply provides a contact closure whenever the Model 3320 has output or when directed to do so by user programming. This feature could be triggered by a Governor's Must Carry message to insert such a message directly into a radio station's audio stream(s). Pending FCC approval, it could also permit the 3320 to function as an EAS encoder. It connects via a serial port on the Model 3320.
