Comrex Releases 2.8 Beta Firmware for Access IP Codecs
Devens, MA - Jan 7, 2011 - Comrex has released an update for its line of Access IP codecs. The 2.8 firmware update is available as a beta release and can be downloaded for free from the Comrex website or by contacting Comrex Tech Support. The 2.8 firmware release provides two significant new features: Support for select 4G wireless devices in the U.S. and the inclusion of AAC coding algorithms on all new Access codecs that ship with 2.8 firmware.
"We've been closely following the development of 4G wireless data services from both Clear (4G WiMax) and Verizon (4G LTE) over the past year," says Comrex Technical Director Tom Hartnett. "The 2.8 Beta release for Access will include support for Clear's 4G Mobile USB modem and Verizon's Pantech UML290 4G USB modem. Based on our initial testing and customer feedback, we feel these new 4G data services will significantly enhance our user's remote broadcast experience above and beyond that of existing 3G networks." Hartnett also indicates that other 4G USB devices will be supported in the future along with continued support for new 3G USB devices.
Comrex will also include its optional AAC coding algorithm package (licensed by Fraunhofer) as standard on all new Access Portable and Access Rack codecs that ship with 2.8 firmware. Owners of older Access codecs can still update their existing units with AAC by acquiring a license unlock from Comrex for a nominal fee.
Founded by John Cheney in 1961, Comrex is now celebrating its 50th year in business.
