hese are questions we often hear that indicate there is much confusion abo
ut digital audio\, multi channel audio and it's transport mechanisms. AES
and MADI are digital signals\, not a protocol. And\, while there are many
products available for multi-channel audio distribution of AES and MADI\,
there are many different variants to encapsulate these very same digital s
ignals around Ethernet layers (AOIP) for transport and distribution. Many
vendors will charge associated fees and fares for specific drivers because
they each have their own proprietary protocol for IP audio. This paper wi
ll take an in-depth look at the differences between synchronous multi-chan
nel distribution hubs (AES\, MADI)\, LAN-based distribution (Ethernet laye
r 2)\, and WAN-based distribution (IP layer 3). The emerging IEEE standard
s for Ethernet audio as an open source\, which will result in broader dire
ct interconnectivity that will hopefully move us toward standard discovery
and enumeration\, and drivers that have little or no cost licensing fees
	and usage\, will be discussed.&lt\;br&gt\;Presenter: Al Salci\, Vice-Presi
