Southern Portion of Norway Covered by DAB+
Oslo - June 5, 2014 - Radio.no is reporting that the southern portion of Norway is now effectively covered by DAB+ radio.
Over the last 2 years, the transmission services provider Norkring has installed 74 new DAB+ transmitters in the areas Aust-Agder, Vest-Agder and Telemark Coast. Communities now covered by digital radio include Tvedestrand, Grimstad, Lillesand, Chak and Hornnes, Byglandsfjorden, Valle, Bykle, Farsund, Flekkefjord Aaseral, Audnedal, Lindesnes, Lyngdal, Hægebostad, Kvinesdal and Sirdal. Many listeners now have access to twice as many channels than they previously had with FM; some have 4 times as many.
Coverage along roadways was a priority in the development of network of transmitters. Many listeners in those areas were accustomed to ‘fuzzy’ reception; now they’ll have a chance to enjoy the benefits of digital radio reception. In Norway, DAB+ will become the sole means of broadcasting as early as 2017. 99.5% of the population will have access to DAB+ transmissions from public broadcaster NRK by the end of this year, and about 90% will have access to DAB+ from commercial broadcasters.
