A Remote for Your Home Audio Network? There's an App for that!
Smartphone users who thought they had an app for everything may have to think again. Frontier Silicon, a developer of chips and modules for digital radio, has just released a free iPhone app that will let users manage their home digital audio network devices from anywhere, including the deck or basement.
The new app provides a GUI interface that acts as a full remote control to select DAB, FM, Internet radio or music services such as Pandora or Last FM, as well as control volume, play, pause, love/ban and EQ settings. The app also enables users to access and control playback of personal music libraries from internal hard drives or attached network/USB storage on any Win7 PC or DLNA compliant device.
Frontier claims that the interface is fully adaptive and interrogates the far-end device to see what services are available and only displays the active modes, so the feature set available is clear to the user.
