Oslo - Sep 17, 2013 - Throughout Norway in October 2013, regional DAB+ networks will start coming on the air. Eventually the total of regional networks will be 37, but for now, only 16 have been auctioned by the Norwegian government, according to Radio.NL.

About 10 percent of the Norwegian population lives within the province of Akershus, which includes Oslo. One regional network that covers this area will be owned by SBS. This transmitter will be on channel 13B, and will have four programs. It will cover about 1.2 million potential listeners. Another regional DAB+ network from Digital Radio Norge will cover just the northwestern portion of Akershus. This will be on channel 13D.

Norway plans to sunset VHF FM transmissions in 2017. Today, approximately 34 percent of households in Norway have one or more DAB+ receivers, and there have been in excess of 1.1 million DAB+ radios sold. More than 225,000 of these are car radios or adapters.
