Huddersfield, UK - Jun 28, 2013 - Another new DAB multiplex transmitter was brought online, providing new DAB coverage for about 500,000 people in Yorkshire, and improving it for others. The transmitter, which is on Arqiva's 330 meter Emley Moor tower, was switched-on by Huddersfield's MP Barry Sheerman. Earlier in 2013 a DAB multiplex transmitter covering the southern part of Yorkshire was brought up, providing coverage for about 350,000.
Digital radio coverage in the UK stands at 94 percent for the BBC's national stations; 85 percent for the national commercial stations; and about 66 percent for local stations. 44 percent of UK homes have a DAB radio source (according to Rajar Q1 2013). 34.3 percent of radio listening hours in the UK are attributable to digital platforms (radio, TV, Internet). According to Digital Radio UK, the UK government is still planning to make a decision this year about the timing of a compete switchover to digital radio.
