HD Radio Still Not Well Represented at NYC Car Show
Automakers know what HD Radio is, but it's not yet available across the board.
New York - May 1, 2011 - The 2011 New York Auto Show has come and gone. I spent some time at the show, not really to see the cars, but to check out the state of HD Radio, at least with respect to the new offerings of the dozens of manufacturers that were represented there. I was also curious as to whether or not the various manufacturers' sales personnel knew anything about HD Radio at all.
The good news is that roughly 80 percent of those to whom I spoke at least knew what it was; out of the nearly two dozen car makes that I saw, though, only six makes offer HD Radio (at most as a standard, at least as an option).
Those that offer HD Radio: Ford, BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, Jaguar, Mini Cooper.
Those that still don't offer HD Radio: Audi, Lincoln, Jeep, Chevy, GM, Buick, Cadilllac, Acura, Honda, Infiniti, Suzuki, Nissan, Toyota, Lexus, Mazda.
This information came directly from sales representatives at the show.
