Mirics Targets ARM Processor-based Mobile Computing Devices with DAB, DAB+
London - Oct 27, 2011 - Mirics Semiconductor has completed development of DAB and DAB+ systems for ARM processor-based applications. The intent is to bring low-cost, region-independent mobile TV and radio reception to media rich smartphones and tablets.
The development expands Mirics' ARM Cortex-A9 processor-based FlexiTV platform that already works with T-DMB.
DAB+ is an extension of DAB - it uses the same physical layer but encodes the audio using AAC giving the consumer better audio quality (at the very least subjectively). It is hoped that the DAB and DAB+ systems will be demonstrated on smartphones in 2012.
