Korea Evaluates HD Radio

Korea's Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) has contracted with Broadcast Electronics to supply FM HD Radio technology and products for evaluation in the Republic of South Korea, according to a BE press release.

Two identical HD Radio Digital hybrid BE FM transmission packages will ship to an ETRI lab for bench tests this summer, with experimental broadcasts expected later in the year.

South Korea has already introduced digital radio via terrestrial (T) DMB services that now carry 12 channels, while satellite (S) DMB service there carry 19 channels. Those services are received by a variety of consumer devices including wireless handsets and personal media players.
