CBS First to Air HD 4 Content
Listeners with HD radios in Washington, D.C., are now getting a taste of just how much content one FM outlet can offer, as CBS sports talker WJFK-FM lights up an HD4 audio channel for the first time.
As it has done with multicast channels elsewhere, CBS has WJFK relying on out-of-market company signals to populate all of its HD Radio channels, with sports talk WJZ-FM Baltimore occupying HD2, New York's WFAN-AM on HD3, and Philly sports station WIP-AM on HD4.
Technology supporting the industry's first quadcast was supplied by a Harris HDE-100 importer v4.3, which the company describes as the first importer product to support HD4 when used with its HDE 200 exporter and HDx exciter.
WJFK is also one of a number of FM stations already taking advantage of the FCC's new -14dBc digital carrier power allowance.
