Denmark's DAB+ Plans Delayed

Denmark's switchover from DAB to DAB+ will occur a little later than was originally planned, according to Radio.nl.

In 2012 the Danish Government established a new media policy clearly focused on DAB+ and the facilitation of additional commercial broadcasting. At that time the intention was also to change to DAB+ this year, but according to a new timetable, this will now happen between 2016 and 2018.

If the share of digital radio listening reaches 50% by 2018, the Government is considering 'sunsetting' the FM service there in 2019.

More than 1.7 million DAB receivers have been sold in Denmark, enough so that about one-third of households have access to digital radio broadcasts. Public Broadcaster DR broadcasts across the entire nation using channel 12C. Commercial radio stations, including Radio 100, Nova FM and Pop FM, use channels 8B, 13B and 11C.
