With the slogan "the third oldest station in the nation," WDZ was the world's pioneer grain market station. WDZ was started by James L. Bush, a grain broker, in March 1921 for the purpose of broadcasting the Chicago grain and livestock markets to the farmers and country elevator men. This was the first station to broadcast grain and livestock markets and created quite a sensation in the grain trade. This picture shows the station's fourth transmitter, built for 100W but it turned out to only be 25W. |

At the NAB show held April 5 to April 8, 1964, Automatic Tape Control marketed the ATC 55 multiple cartridge handler. Built into a standard Cabtron rack cabinet, the unit could be installed as part of an existing automatic broadcasting system or it could be used as a cartridge library for live broadcasts. The equipment featured a positive indexing direct current braking system, as well as gravity lock cartridge loading stops. Automatic electric dual relays were used throughout and the system was available in stereo. |
