WorldDMB Hosts Workshop on Digital Radio for Automobiles
London and Munich - May 27, 2011 - WorldDMB, an international body that promotes digital radio and mobile TV, completed its Third Car Manufacturers workshop, at which car manufacturers and European broadcasters discussed the further integration of digital radios within new vehicle models. More than 100 delegates from 65 different companies, including Audi, BMW, Honda, Skoda, Hyundai, VW, Daimler and Lotus, registered for the workshop.
The main focus of discussion was connectivity; the TPEG (Transports Protocol Experts Group) spoke on real-time traffic data and other information relevant to the in-car user experience. Dr. Bertram Hock, head of broadcast receiver development for BMW Group, spoke on service integration in the automotive environment. According to the WorldDMB press release, BMW in particular was keen for tighter relationships with broadcasters to allow both industries to maximize the mobile digital radio experience.
"It is essential that the automotive and radio broadcasting industries join together to ensure the move to digital radio is a smooth and straightforward transition. This workshop has shown there is real enthusiasm and optimism among European car manufacturers for digital radio. It is encouraging to see that things have moved on since last year and real progress is being made," said Jorn Jensen, WorldDMB president.
