Canton, TX - Jul 4, 2011 - Several Dallas-area newspapers report a head-on collision between a car and four motorcycles occurred near Canton, about 60 miles east of Dallas, on July 3. Jose Luis Pena's Mustang crossed into the opposing lane, resulting in the head-on crash, which killed all four motorcycle riders. Pena has been charged with four counts of criminally negligent homicide.

The motorcyclists were broadcast executive Steve Claterbaugh, 53, and his girlfriend Kathleen Dolores Smith, 52, Bruce Melvin Bricker, 51, and his wife Shannon Rhenee Bricker, 40. They were attending the First Monday Trade Days flea market in Canton, and they were heading north on Highway 19.

Claterbaugh's broadcast career included roles in sales and marketing at several manufacturers. Since 2008 he was an independent consultant. He was the strategic account manager/sales manager for Comet North America from 2005 to 2008. He held various positions with Continental Electronics from 1979 until 1998. He also worked for CRL Systems and Crown Broadcast.

Pena's girlfriend, Rosalind Ann Vela of Rosharon, was in serious condition at a Tyler hospital with facial fractures. She was in the back seat of the Mustang without a seat belt, along with her three-year-old son. Police reports say there were no indications of alcohol or drug use, and the car fire has obscured any indications of mechanical problems.
