SBE Announces 2010 National Meeting Schedule
Indianapolis - Oct 15, 2010 - SBE Chapter 24 of Madison, WI, will host the National Meeting of the Society of Broadcast Engineers on Oct. 26-27. The National Meeting is being held in conjunction with the Wisconsin Broadcasters Clinic, held Oct. 26-28, which is sponsored by the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association (WBA) and SBE Chapter 24. All activities will be held at the Madison Marriott West Hotel in Middleton, WI.
Meetings and events that are part of the SBE National Meeting include:
Tuesday, October 26
SBE Certification Committee - 2 p.m. to 4p.m.
SBE National Board of Directors Meeting - 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
SBE members are welcome to attend.
Wednesday, October 27
Annual SBE Fellows Breakfast - 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.
All SBE Fellow members are invited to attend and will be guests of the SBE.
Frequency Coordination Committee Meeting - 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
SBE frequency coordinators are welcome to attend.
SBE Annual Membership Meeting - 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The meeting will include the induction of newly elected members of the board and officers, the introduction of the SBE Membership Drive Grand Prize winner, John Ramsey of Hartford, CT, and several brief reports and updates on national SBE activities. With the assistance of Chapter 24, the SBE Annual Membership Meeting will be streamed live on the SBE website.
SBE National Reception - 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The reception will include cocktails, hor's doerves and live music by Sticks and Bones, a band composed of SBE members.
SBE National Awards Dinner - 6 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.
The dinner program, emceed by SBE President Vinny Lopez, CEV CBNT, will include special guest Dr. Barry Orton, professor of telecommunications at the University of Wisconsin - Madison, who will be speaking on the broadband plan and its affect on broadcasting in the future.
The SBE Awards Dinner will also include the presentation of the SBE Broadcast Engineer of the Year Award to John Luff and the SBE Educator of the Year Award to Buc Fitch, P.E., CPBE AMD. Two members will be recognized with the highest membership rank awarded by the SBE, the SBE Fellow: Sterling Davis, vice president of engineering, Cox Media Group in Atlanta; and Robert Locke, CPBE CBNT, chief engineer for KPTS-TV in Maize, KS. Chapters and individual members will also be recognized during the dinner for best technical article, best chapter newsletter, website, regional conference, most certified chapter and chapters with the greatest percentage growth and highest average member attendance at chapter meetings.
"The SBE National Meeting provides an ideal venue for SBE members to network with other members and interact with the Society's national leadership," says SBE President Vinny Lopez, CEV CBNT. "In addition, the sessions of the Broadcasters Clinic add additional value to attending the event."
