AES Reports High Attendance
New York - Nov 5, 2004 - The 117th Audio Engineering Society Convention, held Oct. 28 – 31, produced near record numbers of attendees. According to AES, 16,153 attendees mingled on an exhibition floor that featured 415 exhibitors, just four away from an all-time AES high.
The AES also noted that the special events, workshops, roundtables and presentations were well attended.
FCC Commissioners Will Hold Forum on Media Consolidation
Oct 28, 2004 - Washington - Commissioners Michael J. Copps and Jonathan S. Adelstein will hold a forum on media concentration at Hamline University in St. Paul, MN. The hearing will be held Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. in Sundin Music Hall. The purpose of the hearing is to give citizens outside of Washington, DC, an opportunity to voice their opinions about media consolidation.
Copps and Adelstein announced they will attend hearings in cities across America to seek public input. These meetings will build on the nearly 20 forums that Copps and Adelstein have already attended on this topic during the past year and a half.
Harris Completes Encoda Systems Acquisition
Melbourne, FL - Nov 3, 2004 - Harris has completed the previously announced acquisition of Encoda Systems Holdings. Encoda is a supplier of broadcast software and services including traffic and billing systems, program scheduling, master control play-to-air automation and digital asset management. The company serves more than 600 customers in 34 countries. Encoda had previously been owned by an investment group.
Enco Announces Support for 5.1, 7.1 Surround
Southfield, MI - Oct 27, 2004 - Support for multichannel sound within Enco's Dadpro32 and Dadtv will now be included in the products at no additional charge. The 5.1 and 7.1 audio files appear the same way as stereo or mono files appear, and are easy to play and manipulate. Files are stored as single linear uncompressed files using industry standard interleaved WAV streams.
Implementing multichannel sound on legacy Dadpro32 and Dadtv may require replacing the audio card.
Multichannel support is expected to begin shipping in November 2004.
Klotz, Smartav Form Alliance
Sydney and Munich - Oct 29, 2004 - Klotz Digital and Smartav, an Australian based manufacturer of audio production consoles, have signed a joint sales and marketing agreement. The agreement allows Klotz to integrate Smartav’s family of production consoles with its Variable Audio Distribution Interface System (Vadis) audio/media platform, offering customers the option to tie Smartav consoles into any new or existing Vadis system.
Klotz Digital Australia developed a TCP/IP based interface, establishing an open connection protocol between different manufacturers’ hardware. The Vadis platform acts as an engine for Smartav’s control surfaces. Vadis brings a large audio matrix and a multiple audio format capability to the Smartav products.
Argentieri Promoted at NPR
Washington – Nov 3, 2004 - NPR veteran David Argentieri has been named senior director, operations and engineering. Argentieri joined NPR in 1985, after technical stints at WTOP and ABC News. He has served as a broadcast recording technician for 10 years with lead responsibility for numerous presidential pools, conventions and inaugurations.
Argentieri was appointed as the network's first technical director for news operations in 1995, the first news operations supervisor in 1998 and first director for operations in 2001.
Humke Appointed Orban/CRL Production Manager
Tempe, AZ - Nov 1, 2004 - Patricia Humke has been appointed to the position of production manager for Orban/CRL’s Arizona and California facilities. She will supervise the manufacturing, purchasing, production scheduling, technical services and inventory control of both locations.
Humke had been an employee of Harris since 1975. She worked her way up through the ranks of the company to her final assignment as the senior site manager and director of operations of the Harris facility in Carlsbad, CA.
During her years with Harris, she took on a wide range of assignments from manufacturing mini-factory team manager in Quincy, IL, to manufacturing manager in Cambridge, England.
Humke is a graduate of Quincy University with a bachelor's degree in business administration.
Ledtronics Website is now Multilingual
Torrance, CA - Nov 4, 2004 - Ledtronics' website, www.ledtronics.com, can now be viewed in German, French, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese. To access the translation tool, go to the lower right-hand corner and click on the language of choice.
Navigauge Introduces Consumer Behavior Index
Atlanta - Nov 1, 2004 - Navigauge, a media and market intelligence company, has introduced the Consumer Behavior Index (CBI). CBI is a source of consumer in-vehicle radio listening behavior data and intelligence.
Earlier this year, Navigauge combined passive and continuous in-vehicle radio audience measurement and global positioning technology to form a data analysis system that pinpoints which drivers listen to what, when they listen, for how long and where they are as the listening occurs. In addition, Navigauge identifies which music, ad and talk content retains audience, where these drivers shop, stop and how they got there.
