DRM Radios to Show at European Conventions
Berlin and Amsterdam - Aug 25, 2005 - The first Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) consumer radios will arrive at Europe’s media exhibitions IFA and IBC in September, as major commercial and public broadcasters simultaneously announce new and extended DRM broadcasts.
Texas Instruments and Radioscape will unveil several manufacturers’ multi-standard consumer receivers with DRM, Eureka-147, FM with RDS, LW, MW and SW capabilities based on TI’s DRM350 digital radio baseband. Also, Coding Technologies, AFG Engineering and Himalaya (Power) Electronics will present a DRM-capable radio based on Analog Devices’ Blackfin.
RTL Group will discuss its DRM strategy and will broadcast live RTL programs in German, French and English. Deutsche Welle will reveal its upcoming DRM expansion, and will broadcast live from IFA along with RFI. BBC World Service launches its DRM Europe service to the Benelux countries, and neighboring France and Germany. Radio Netherlands will add special broadcasts to its existing DRM line-up during IFA and IBC. Deutschland Radio, Voice of Russia, Truck Radio, TDP Radio and CVC will send DRM broadcasts. TDF and French broadcasters RFI, Radio France, RTL, Europe 1, Radio de la Mer, Superloustic, Radio Orient, Radio Telerama, Radio Nouveaux Talents, Beur FM and Littoral AM join together for a special DRM transmission. T-Systems will broadcast Radio 1 during IFA.
IFA will be held Sept. 2 to 7 in Berlin. IBC will be held Sept. 9 to 12 in Amsterdam.
Kroger Grocery Stores Added to Houston PPM Trial
New York - Aug 23, 2005 - Kroger grocery stores in the Houston area will participate in the market trial of the Arbitron Portable People Meter (PPM) system. One hundred stores will use audio programming from In-Store Broadcasting Network, which provides an in-store music service and broadcast advertising network for Kroger in Houston. The audio programming will be embedded with the PPM identification codes.
Scarborough Research reports that Kroger stores are visited by at least 51 percent of the adult population in Houston over the course of a typical week. Previously, Arbitron announced that Best Buy, Gap, Gallery Furniture, National Cinemedia and Old Navy are also participating in the Houston PPM demonstration.
NAB Radio Early Registration Deadline Extended
Washington, DC - Aug 23, 2005 - The NAB has extended its early bird registration deadline for the NAB Radio Show from Aug. 18 to Sept. 9. Early bird registration allows attendees to the convention to pay a lower rate: $495 for members or $795 for non-members instead of paying the full registration costs of $595 for members or $895 for non-members. In addition, the two-for-one member deal is still in effect, which allows two people from an NAB member company to register for the radio show for the price of one.
"We're trying to be responsive to feedback from broadcasters who have been vacationing in August and overlooked the deadline," said John David, NAB executive vice president of radio.
ABC Radio Networks to Develop Trafficking and Reporting System
New York - Aug 25, 2005 - ABC Radio Networks has entered into an agreement with software developer Spot Buy Spot to create and deploy a system to track commercial airplay across ABC Radio Networks programs. This new system is being developed exclusively for ABC Radio Networks and is scheduled to be operational by the end of Q1 2006.
The reporting system will enable affiliates to quickly process network traffic orders and return commercial clearance logs to ABC Radio Networks. The automated process will reduce the need for manual data entry by the affiliate traffic department while maintaining accurate and timely information management.
Symetrix Names Gallagher EVP
Mountlake Terrace, WA - Aug 22, 2005 - Symetrix has made changes in its corporate structure and expanded its manufacturing facilities. Key to these changes is the addition of Dan Gallagher in the newly created position of executive vice president-global sales and marketing. Gallagher has worked with Ensoniq, Alesis, Korg, Marshall and most recently, Behringer USA as VP director of sales for the Americas, where he structured and implemented the company's operations in the Western Hemisphere for the past six years.
In his new position, Gallagher is focused on expanding the four Symetrix brands (Symetrix, Symnet, Lucid and Airtools) worldwide via an aggressive sales and marketing strategy. His immediate goal is to develop a scalable, modular training and pre-sales support program for the Symnet line of modular, digital routing and mixing systems, in addition to revitalizing and re-introducing a number of the classic Symetrix products to existing and emerging markets.
