V-Soft Adds Features to FMCommander
Cedar Falls, IA - Sep 23, 2013 - V-Soft has issued a summary of the updates made available to its FMCommander program since the beginning of 2013. These updates and other fixes can be found under the Help menu by selecting Show Update Version History. The company notes that many of the improvements are useful for LPFM work, while others will be helpful for translators.
The program now flags the user with a message of Radio Reading Services that need 3rd-adjacent protection, even if they are outside the bandwidth of one or two channels, and shows them on the screen and printout tables, when a search is made for an LPFM and the resident channel is three-channels adjacent. This feature requires the RReading.csv file, which installs with the download.
For LPFM studies, the program now uses three-channel bandwidth to show Mexican or Canadian station relationships (as per the rules) even if the program is set for LPFM one- or two-channel bandwidth.
The Database Filter menu, found as the last item under Listing Query now allows the user to reject certain types, such as License, CP or Applications. Using these check boxes allows searching a Listing Query within a certain distance that contains only applications, for example.
The Filter on Database screen will use the resident station showing on the database screen as its center coordinates, or if the checkbox is checked the program will use the reference station's coordinates. This can be used to identify all translators or boosters within a certain distance selected by the user. Once the list appears you can use the distance from the selected reference which is the last item shown in each station's listing. You can click on those that are close and bring them up on the full database screen and then click the Associated Facility button to determine the translator or booster's input channel.
The program has new icon on the Find Information screen, the file drawer. From that screen load the screen with the text for a station and then click the icon or the menu item and the program will open the database screen and show the user all parameters stored in the original V-Soft database. Note, this feature works for job files compiled after build 109.
Secondary database access has been improved. The program now requires new a DLL, vsvbtsvr2.dll. Follow the instructions in FMCommander when you run the updated program.
A new menu item has been added to Views, the Find Information Screen. This is the same as clicking the Divider Tool icon, or clicking the blue colored heading atop the Mainscreen table.
Second-adjacent channels to LPFM reference stations will show up with dashed, multicolored, allocation circles on the Separations Mapping map screen. These are to identify LPFM channels that could be used under second-adjacent waivers.
The program now vets maximum 74.1235 translator power along each radial when a directional antenna is employed. It tells user the incorrect radial and shows HAAT and required maximum ERP for the radial's HAAT.
The program now saves the LPFM bandwidth settings, whether co to 1st, co to 2nd or standard (co to 3rd), so whatever the setting was when the user exists the job file, it will be the same when loaded again.
If the class is changed to an LPFM station the program will default to the co to second-adjacent setting.
When a translator is selected, a text line has been added to the station listing on the Find Information screen that tells the user the pre-calculated distance to contour of the translator, based on average of 12 radials. Pre-calculation uses the FCC terrain elevation, 30-second, terrain-elevation database.
Added to Main Screen Settings menu: Hide I.F.s (LPFM Ref.) and Hide all primary APPs and Hide all secondary apps to the Mainscreen -> Settings -> LPFM and Overall Settings menu.
An update was made to show the corrected path to a shelled V-Tower or IDTowers, when a user right-clicks on a tower icon on the Map Information Page.
FMCommander now shows the associated facility number on the database screen. Downgraded versions do not have this feature. If the user clicks the button it brings up the associated facility on the database screen. This will be helpful for determining translator input channels and the FCC record of channel number.
Hallikainen FCC rules are now selectable by years.
The program has added the ability to hide Auction 83 applications, when needed as per rules to protect LPFM.
The V-Soft Database now contains rescinded CPs and dismissed applications. Look for the "X" after record Type. If you see CPX or APX, those applications have been rescinded or dismissed, but are still in the CDBS database.
The program has been revised to have translator reference stations treat LPFM stations with directional antennas as omni-directional as per the new rules.
The FCC has acknowledge that class CA protected LPTV, channel-six TV stations do not have to be protected by full service NCE stations in the reserved band, thus the program is now set up to ignore class CA, LPTV-6 protected stations, (abbreviated as just C for class A in V-Soft databases), when running an FM study in the NCE reserved band. If the reference class is D or L1 the CA TV stations will be automatically included in the database.
