NXP Rolls Out Digital Radio Multi-standard Chip
In the dynamic, multi-standard world of digital automotive entertainment platforms, hardware designs grow more complex by the day. Even so, NXP Semiconductors says its new SAF35x series digital co-processors may provide more flexible radio options for automotive electronic OEMs.
In a press release, the company claims its latest offering accepts and decodes both analog radio and a wide variety of digital baseband signals including DAB, DAB+, T-DMB and HD Radio, providing both audio and data outputs using its supplied software. NXP also notes that since it provides application software as well as hardware, the SAF35x is ready for future software upgrades to accommodate DRM and DRM+ as well.
One immediate application anticipated for the SAF35x is the production of simplified dual tuner analog FM/DAB car radios for the European market.
