Garmin Adds DAB Digital Traffic Updates to Sat-nav
London - May 15, 2013 - Garmin launched its new UK Nüvi line-up of sat navs at the London Transport Museum at Covent Garden. The latest range from Garmin makes it "easier than ever" to follow directions and avoid congestion with the traffic information provided by INRIX.
Through INRIX and the use of DAB technology, Garmin's most advanced traffic service offers two main advantages in comparison to TMC (Traffic Message Channel) or the GSM network:
■ Traffic information is updated every minute, up to twice as fast in comparison to current services providing drivers with earlier warning to traffic incidents helping them navigate around delays.
■ The service allows for larger data volumes (about 80x higher bandwidth than TMC) to be delivered providing drivers with more detailed information about incidents and their impacts on delays, improves accuracy and provides coverage for a broader geographic area, for example, the service reports the exact location of the incident, where the delay starts and ends, rather than stating an entire road segment is blocked like other services. As a result, drivers are ensured of the best alternative route around the jam.
The new products are the Nüvi 3597LMT and 3798LMTD, which feature a new design and larger screens that range from 4.3 to 7 inches. Both the 3597LMT and the 3798MTD come with a mag-mount that snaps in to place once the user holds the device close. Another feature is voice response; users can speak a response to selects a route to avoid traffic. The new Nüvi GPS devices, which start from £80 (about $125) will also include lifetime-free traffic updates and free map updates (according to Autocar).
