Ron Paley Receives WABE Ambassador of Year Award
Calgary, AB - Nov 20, 2012 - Ron Paley received the industry equivalent of an Oscar on Nov. 19, 2012, as the recipient of the WABE Ambassador of the Year award. Paley was called out during the organization's luncheon at the Western Association of Broadcast Engineers (WABE) convention in Calgary, AB, for his contributions to the Canadian broadcast industry spanning more than 50 years.
Paley and his wife Carol have a long and eventful history in broadcasting, and currently serve broadcasters through family businesses Oakwood Broadcast and Ron Paley Broadcast. The company recently acquired Digital Juke Box Automation. Paley's son Darrin spent almost six years in the family business before joining Wheatstone in 2001 as a Wheatstone sales engineer at the factory in New Bern, NC.
During the luncheon, WABE President Brad Hooper presented Paley with the highest award given by the engineering association. He spoke of Paley's dedication to broadcasting and cited career highlights, including several Wheatstone firsts.
Ron Paley was the consultant responsible for the first all-digital radio facility in Canada using Wheatstone digital consoles and routing system. The Paleys also demonstrated in 2006, along with son Darrin, the industry's first multi‐channel PC soundcard replacement using WDM drivers via the Wheatstone Bridge routing system interfaced to MediaTouch automation, which later became the springboard for new software driver technology used in the WheatNet‐IP AoIP system.
Other accomplishments by Paley include opening the first multi-track recording studio in Winnipeg, installing the first Canadian digital mass storage system (D.A.M.S., which later became a Wheatstone company) at a radio studio in Winnipeg, and supplying equipment for the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics, Bobby Vinton U.S. tour and the Canadian Papal visit tour.
Over the past several decades, Paley has pioneered breakthroughs in technology and supported broadcasters in ways too numerous to count, effectively representing the Wheatstone brands in Canada.
