Continental's Steve Schott Dies
Glen Rose, TX - May 28, 2009 - Steve Schott, most recently south central regional sales manager for Continental, passed away on May 28 from a massive heart attack. Schott began his broadcast career as the chief engineer in a small station in Rocky Ford, CO, on April 1, 1966. He moved to the Dallas/Ft. Worth market in 1974 as chief engineer of KLIF-1190, working for Fairchild Broadcasting following many years with the McLendon organization, first as chief engineer of WWWW-FM, Detroit, MI, and later as chief engineer of McLendon's 1390 operation and its associated FM station in Chicago. Steve began work with the Collins Radio division of Rockwell International about 1975 in the Broadcast Field Service Department. After about two years in field service he transferred to broadcast sales where he served the Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana until Collins shut down the broadcast operation in November 1980. Steve then worked in sales for several years with Continental Electronics in the same territory until he left to work for Harris. Steve sold for Harris for several years before moving to Broadcast Electronics where he sold for several years until a change of management resulted in several salesmen leaving the company. At that time he returned to Continental where he was responsible for sales in most of the western half of the country for the past few years.
Schott first pursued a fine arts degree from Drake University, but turned his attention to engineering and earned his associate degree from the Devry Institute.
Schott was a long time member of SBE chapter 67, and served as the chapter's program chairman for several years. He was also the president of the Old English Sheep Dog Rescue (TxOESR) in Houston.
The Schott family will hold a small memorial service at 2 p.m. on June 7 at their house in Glen Rose, TX. Schott's obituary will be posted in the Dallas Morning News and online. Memorial messages and condolences can be posted there. Memorial messages can also be posted to the TxOESR site. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Old English Sheep Dog Rescue.
