Ohio Transmission Tower Ransacked
Dayton, OH - Jan 18, 2011 - According to Cox Media Group's WHIO-TV, two men are in custody and police are looking for a third after authorities said they tried to scrap thousands of dollars of stolen equipment.
Sister radio station, WHKO-FM K99.1, went silent early Monday morning when its transmission tower was ransacked. Chief Radio Engineer Benny Spitler told WHIO-TV that he found the front gate taken down and the back door open.
The suspects grabbed computers, printers and K99.1's transmitter.
Employees at a scrap metal shop noticed WHIO and Cox logos on the stolen goods and police were called.
