Vienna to Conduct DAB+ Tests by Christmas 2013
Vienna - Aug 21, 2013 - DAB+ test transmission is currently slated to begin in the Austrian capital before Christmas 2013, according to Gernot Fischer of the Digital Radio Club of Austria. Two transmitters will operate as a single frequency network, with one transmitting a 10kW signal. This test mode is scheduled to last a year, with the possibility of an extension in to 2015.
Between 2000 and 2008 DAB transmissions were made in Austria. The Austrian Public broadcaster ORF was heard in this manner in Vienna and the Tyrol. Even today, DAB+ transmissions from Switzerland and Germany can be received in the far western part of the country.
