Tasmanian Cities Hoping to Get Digital Radio
Hobart, Australia - May 9, 2011 - Commercial Radio Australia has applied to Regional Development Australia for funding for the construction of digital radio transmission systems that would cover Hobart, Tasmania, as well as Launceston, Tasmania. Guy Barnett, the Liberal senator from Tasmania, says Hobart was the only capital city in Australia to be excluded from the digital radio roll out that happened in 2009. "We are currently being treated as second class citizens, and that's not good enough," said Barnett. "We’ve looked at other ways ofgetting digital radio to Tasmania, and an application to Regional Development Australia is the best way to go."
