Radio stations in eight states are being asked to help put together information that would be helpful after an earthquake.

The Alabama Broadcasters Association notes on its website that the state is part of the Central United States Earthquake Consortium. “The states’ broadcasters associations have been asked to survey radio and TV stations in the CUSEC region to collect important information that would be needed after an earthquake,” ABA stated. “This information is good to have in any crisis.”

Established in 1983, CUSEC is a partnership of the federal government and eight states most affected by earthquakes in the central United States: Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee.

Questions on the Alabama survey include “Do your station(s) have a disaster recovery/business continuity plan?” “Do your studios have an emergency power generator? If Yes, how long can you run this site before re-fueling is required?” and “What is your stations’ connectivity to the public internet for emergency information gathering and EAS/CAP/IPAWS?”

ABA asked station general managers to assign someone at each station/station cluster to complete the 25-question survey for each set of call letters. The deadline to complete the survey is April 28.
