Lawton, OK - Feb 2, 2010 - With winter storms at their most severe this winter, some stations are suffering the worst from the snow and ice. The GAP Broadcasting tower in Lawton OK, collapsed on Feb. 2, 2010, when the severe amount of ice that stuck to it from Jan. 28 started to melt. Norm Philips, vice president of engineering for GAP Broadcasting, believes that as the ice melted and was falling from the tower, the tower began to shake.

Stations KLAW and KZCD are now operating on low-power transmitters and antennas from an STL tower at the studios.

Philips also notes that towers about two miles north of the GAP site fell on Jan. 30. Much of the area has been without power since then as well.

Feb 4, 2010 Update: Norm Philips has noted that the only items salvaged from the site are are a 13' piece of transmission line and a Paraflector. Power is still out in most of the area.
