Digital Broadcasters in Norway Agree to Loudness Normalization
Lillehammer - Feb 13, 2012 - All Norwegian DAB/DAB+ content providers have agreed to implement a common target level for loudness normalization. The digital radio broadcasters chose -15 LUFS (Loudness Unitreferred to Full Scale) as a preliminary target level, as opposed to the -23 LUFS specified in the EBU recommendation EBU R-128. The main reason for this preliminary choice of -15 LUFS is to match the levels between DAB, analog FM and Internet radio in multiplatform receivers.
Authorities in Norway are working toward a complete shutdown of the analog FM network in 2017 (or at the latest in 2019).
