BAKOM Awards DAB+ Network License in Switzerland
Biel/Bienne, Switzerland - Apr 10 - BAKOM, Switzerland's Federal Communications regulator, has awarded SwissMediaCast a radio license for a new DAB+ transmitter network, according to an article in href="http://www.telecompaper.com">TelecomPaper</a>. The network will consist of seven different coverage areas in German-speaking Switzerland. Construction for the first coverage area will begin in November 2012.
SMC plans to launch the network in the Zurich-Aargau-Schaffhausen-Glarus area in March 2013, and expects the network to cover all the German-speaking part of the country by 2016.
Sales of DAB+ radios in Switzerland have reached around 880,000 units to date.
