Media Broadcast Continues Expanding German DAB+ Network
Bonn - May 24, 2012 - Media Broadcast, operator of the national digital radio network in Germany, is driving the expansion of the network by commissioning ten new DAB+ transmitter sites. Included among the ten are the locations of Bielefeld and Osnabrueck to cover the shortfall between North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony. In early June 2012, the sites in Baden-Baden, Fulda, Giessen Duensberg and Pforzheim will be turned up.
Since its launch in August of 2011, the new digital radio network has achieved coverage of about 50 percent of the German nation. 38 million listeners can get reception in-home. With the second phase in 2012, and the commissioning of another 19 transmitter sites, that will increase to 42.3 million listeners. Mobile reception encompasses about 25 percent of the nation. The company expects to have 110 transmitter sites operating by 2015.
