Dan Mason

Oct 15, 2010 - Pikeville, KY - On Oct. 13, 2010, at its annual convention, the Kentucky Broadcasters Association presented its Ralph Gabbard Distinguished Kentuckian Award to Dan Mason, president and chief executive officer, CBS Radio.

The Ralph Gabbard Distinguished Kentuckian Award is given to present or former Kentuckians who have earned fame or acclaim in their field of endeavor, in recognition of the value of those achievements to the state and nation. This award is named in honor of former television broadcaster and Kentucky Broadcasters Association Chairman Ralph Gabbard. Former recipients of this award include Loretta Lynn, Story Musgrave, Bill Stakelin, C.M. Newton, Julian Goodman, Governor Louie Nunn and Steve Newberry, among others.

In presenting the award, Ed Henson of the KBA Awards Committee said the award presented to Dan Mason was long overdue and greatly deserved, and that the Kentucky broadcasting community takes great pride in the accomplishments of this native son.

As president and CEO of CBS Radio, Mason oversees CBS Radio's 130 stations, as well as the day-to-day operations of the division. He returned to CBS Radio in April 2007 after serving as an adviser and consultant to CBS and other domestic and international companies in the radio broadcasting industry for the five years prior.

Mason had previously served as president of CBS Radio from 1995-2002. As the executive responsible for operating the group's then 184 stations in the largest markets across the United States, Mason integrated the original CBS, Group W, Infinity Radio and American Radio Systems stations by merging operations, blending business styles and increasing profitability.

A native of Louisville, KY, Mason graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a degree in broadcasting, and was recently given an honorary Doctorate of Humanities from that institution.
