IHS Research: Vehicles with Internet Access Sales to Increase
Aug 23, 2011 - According to an IHS report, sales of vehicles with integrated Internet access will increase dramatically over the next seven years. In fact, IHS, the author of this research, estimates that 24 million such vehicles will be sold in 2018, up dramatically from 168,000 in 2010.
IHS believes the next several years will see an explosion in the use of in-vehicle apps in cars, driven by increasing shipments of automobiles using head units designed to integrate cloud-based content. IHS analysts believe these apps, whether built into cars or provided via connected mobile devices like smartphones, will provide a range of infotainment, entertainment, remote diagnostics and navigation services. IHS also expects Internet radio to lead the in-vehicle app revolution.
