German Students Prototype DRM+, DAB+, VHF FM Receiver
Ludwigshafen, Germany - Feb 20, 2013 - To prove that a multi-standard receiver (including DRM+) could be implemented by inexpensive, commercially available components, the State Media Authority of Rhineland-Palatinate Germany (LMK) last year issued a research and development project to the University of Kaiserslautern to build a multi-standard receiver. Within their research projects, two students set up a fully functional stand-alone DRM+ receiver as prototype. It is based on Terratec's well-known Noxon DAB USB stick, available for about 25 Euro, to receive DAB+. Fraunhofer (IIS) supported this project by enhancing its DRM+ decoder and by adding DRM+ extensions to its Fraunhofer-Multimediaplayer, which is the basis of Noxon's MediaPlayer for DAB. The end result is that the student-built prototype can receive DAB+, DRM+, as well as analog FM radio.
The now available final report "Entwicklung und Fertigung eines Multinorm-Empfaengers zum Empfang von DRM im Mode E (DRM+) gemeinsam mit DAB+ und UKW-FM und von weiteren Hoerfunksystemen" including technical details on the DRM+ "portable radio" receiver as well as lab measurement results can be downloaded (only in German) at www.drm-radio-kl.eu.
