Genachowski, McDowell Pass First Senate Review
Washington, DC - June 16 - President Barack Obama's choices for FCC posts, Julius Genachowski for chairman and current Commissioner Robert McDowell, appeared before the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee for their confirmation hearings. The Committee voted 24-1 to approve Genachowski's nomination and unanimously approved McDowell. Both are now sent to the full Senate for confirmation.
During the hearing, the ghosts of former Chairman Kevin Martin's mismanagement of the agency were revisited. The Senate committee commented that Genachowski has some challenges ahead.
It is expected that Genachowski will be confirmed before the Senate takes its July 4 recess.
