DRM+ Debuts in Paris
A press release from Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) says that its non-proprietary DRM+ standard conducted a successful demonstration before government telecom regulators in the French capital last week.
A 400W DRM+ signal was reportedly broadcast on 64.5MHz from a site north of Paris and monitored at French CSA offices about 10km distant.
DRM claims that the test proves the DRM+ standard can provide a localized stand alone digital platform for small local broadcasters that lack the scope or economic clout to obtain digital radio channels recently allocated on new T-DMB multiplexes nationally. The DRM+ standard was designed to mesh with existing analog FM spectrum channel plans in most of Europe.
The demonstration was performed for the French CSA with help from the University of Applied Sciences, Kaiserslautern and Fraunhofer IIS, Erlangen.
