Digital One, BT Wholesale Partner in UK-wide Data Distribution Network
Winchester, UK - May 5, 2013 - Digital One, the UK's national digital radio multiplex operator, has partnered with BT Wholesale to develop a service that utilizes capacity on the national commercial DAB digital radio network to broadcast multimedia data services.
According to RadioToday, this new venture "underpins Digital One's belief that rich data services will give a significant boost to DAB digital radio's success and that, with the backing of BT Wholesale, it is uniquely placed to deliver the potential benefits."
OFCOM has already granted approval to Digital One to use its data capacity to carry the new multimedia service. The national network will carry "the most advanced multimedia offering in the world, with a mix and variety of content and information services, together with eight national commercial radio stations."
Surely there are implications here regarding the potential use of nationwide HD Radio networks across the U.S.
