Digital Music Downloads Continue to Increase
London - Aug 19, 2009 - The number of digital music downloads continue to increase each year, but physical media sales are still the leader in the U.S. But data from the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) says that revenue from digital downloads will equal revenue from physical media sales in the U.S. in 2010. The IFPI predicts this will be true around the world in 2016.
The IFPI began tracking digital download sales in 2004. At the time, digital downloads accounted for 2 percent of total music revenue. By 2008, digital music accounted for 20 percent of worldwide music revenue.
