Commercial Radio Joins Belgian DAB Lineup
VDL Benelux, a member of the French-based VDL Group, is set to be the first independent network operator in Belgium to turn up a new multiplex that will offer six DAB+ commercial radio channels along with a T-DMB service starting in April.
VDL says it will provide full technical services such as multiplexing, distribution, transmission and supervision for the new network. Transmitters for the multiplex will be located in the cities of Brussels, Liège and Charleroi.
DAB has actually been on the air in Belgium since 1997, courtesy of public broadcaster VRT, which has one multiplex in operation with nine audio channels. RTBF, a public broadcaster for the French language community, also has a DAB multiplex in operation with six audio channels.
