London DAB 2 Multiplex to be Upgraded
London - Jan 31, 2012 - Switchdigital has contracted with the French company VDLto provide new transmission services for the London 2 DAB multiplex. The 12-year agreement will last the entire duration of its second license period. The contract will mark VDL's first move into the UK digital radio transmission market.
A new transmitter will be added at the BT Tower, which is expected to improve DAB user indoor reception of the stations sharing the multiplex in central London.
Switchdigital is jointly owned by UTV Media, TIML (owners of Absolute Radio) and Carphone Warehouse. The London 2 DAB multiplex was launched in July 2000, and current stations include XFM, Gold, BBC London 94.9, Absolute Radio's 70s and 00s decades stations and French Radio London.
