Digital-only Stations Gain Traction in U.K.
London - Aug 3, 2012 - According to the BBC, recent RAJAR results show that several of digital-only BBC stations are gaining listeners successfully. BBC Radio 4 Extra now has an audience estimate of 1.64 million listeners weekly. BBC Radio One Extra now has an audience estimate of 1.14 million listeners weekly.
Commercial digital-only stations are also seeing increases, according to an article in the Guardian. Absolute Radio and Planet Rock are seeing substantial increases in audience size. Absolute Radio saw its total UK audience grow to 1.76 million in the second quarter of this year, up 9.4 percent on the previous three months, while digital station Planet Rock was up 10.1 percent to 948,000.
