Broadcast Electronics Joins DRM Consortium

Quincy, IL - Jan 10, 2013 - Broadcast Electronics (BE) has joined the DRM Consortium in support of progressive DRM digital radio, especially in the FM band for the Indian market. BE will display DRM+ capable transmitters at booth 91 in Hall 12A at BES Expo 2013 as cost-effective solutions for India's third phase of FM privatization.

Introduced at IBC 2012, the BE STX LP Generation II FM transmitter broadcasts a DRM+ signal and an analog FM signal simultaneously through a single transmitter. As the DRM+ signal is 200kHz higher than the FM signal, the result is a FM signal at 97.1MHz and the DRM+ signal at 97.3MHz - both generated by the single transmitter. Prior to joining the DRM Consortium, BE worked closely with RFmondial and Fraunhofer IIS of Germany to develop DRM+ capabilities. The STX LP Generation II also offers a new integrated digital exciter, improved efficiency, dual exciter options, and a new smart redundant controller.

BE and Technomedia Solutions have supplied systems to independent FM broadcasters in India since the government opened FM frequencies for private operation. It has supplied studio and/or RF systems to Sun TV Network, Kal Radio, South Asia, Sri Puran, Malar Publications, Malayala Manorama, Purvy Broadcast and other independent broadcasters in India.
