Bayern Digital Radio Reduces Number of DAB+ Transmitters
Munich—Bayern Digital Radio has restructured its DAB+ transmitter network (channel 12D) throughout Bavaria by reducing the number of multiplex transmitters to 26, and also increasing power at 16 selected locations. Coverage has remained ‘almost constant’ at 88 percent highway coverage and 54 percent home coverage.
According to BDR, private broadcasters need "several years" to recoup their investments in digital radio, after which time it is anticipated that the service will be supported by the advertising market. Until then, costs need to be kept ‘as low and stable as possible.’
