APTX Appoints new Chief Technology Officer
Belfast, Northern Ireland -- Oct 6, 2009 -- APTX, the developer and licensor of apt-X audio coding technology, today announced that Dr. David Trainor, a leading expert in the field of digital audio signal processing, has been promoted to the newly created position of Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Also, the company’s board of directors has elected Trainor to serve as an executive director on the board, joining Noel McKenna, CEO and Jon McClintock, Sales President.
As engineering manager for the last four years, Trainor has successfully lead the company’s world-class R&D group at the company's Belfast headquarters and is responsible for the development of application-specific audio coding algorithms for various hardware platforms and software operating systems.
Trainor presents a technical white paper on the subject of Scalable Audio Coding at the upcoming 127th Audio Engineering Society convention in New York. He is a Member of the AES, a professional body devoted exclusively to audio technology, and recently became a Senior Member of the IEEE, the highest grade of membership of the world's leading professional association for the advancement of technology.
Trainor holds Master of Engineering and PhD degrees in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Queens University, Belfast (QUB). He leads research into novel audio coding methods and his current technical interests include source coding methods, adaptive signal processing, wireless communications and embedded software design. Trainor has worked for APTX since its inception and, in previous senior positions with other high-tech companies, has led engineering teams designing software security systems for pay-TV and standards-based IP cores for wireless communications.
