London - Apr 24, 2012 - Each year, the Queen's Awards for Enterprise are awarded in three categories: International Trade, Innovation, Sustainable Development. The honors recognize companies that achieve substantial growth in overseas earnings and in commercial success. The levels must be considered outstanding for the company's relative business size and business sector for a period of three or six years. Two companies with a radio presence have been honored for 2012.

Pro audio mixer manufacturer Allen & Heath has received the Queen's Award for Enterprise in the International Trade category. The honor has been granted for the company's achievement in export growth between 2008 and 2011, with overseas earnings growing by 64 percent, along with growth in turnover and profit. This is the second time the Cornish manufacturer has won a Queen's Award, having previously been recognized in 1995 in the same category.

Allen & Heath started by providing mixing consoles for the bands Genesis, The Who and Pink Floyd. Now part of D&M Holdings, its current portfolio covers a broad spectrum of the industry, with recent users including Adele, Morrissey, President Obama's Nobel Peace Prize ceremony, ESPN Sports, Sasha and Pete Tong.

Nottingham-based electronics manufacturing services company SMS Electronics received the Queens Award for Enterprise in International Trade. This is the first time the company has received the award.

SMS has more than 100 years of manufacturing history as an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and electronic manufacturing services (EMS) provider. Its facility occupies more than 7,000 square meters of manufacturing floor space and uses state-of the-art equipment.

The Awards are the UK's highest accolade for business success. They are made each year by The Queen, on the advice of the Prime Minister, who is assisted by an advisory committee that includes representatives of government, industry and commerce, and the trade unions.
