2011 National EAS Test: Will Your EAS Unit React to the DC FIPS Code?
Aug 23, 2011 - On August 23, 2011, the FCC issued a public notice to clarify some details of the Nov. 9, 2011, national EAS test. The test will use the EAN event code (header and EOM) and the Washington, DC, area FIPS code. Questions have been raised if station EAS units need to have the Washington, DC, FIPS code added to ensure they are activated by the EAS test.
Kirk Chestnut, CPBE, EAS area coordinator for Kansas City, shared this summary with Radio magazine:
These EAS devices will act on an EAN regardless of the FIPS code if they are in automatic mode:
Digital Alert Systems DASDEC-II
Sage Digital Endec
TFT 911
We are still gathering information on devices from the following manufacturers and will provide updates as we get them.
Burk
Gorman-Redlich
Hollyanne
Trilithic
EMnet will not carry the Nov. 9 EAN test as of Aug. 23, 2011.
